چکیده

A numerical evaluation of the discrete path integral for pure lattice gravity, with and without higher derivative terms, and using the lattice analog of the DeWitt gravitational measure, shows the existence of a well-behaved ground state for sufficiently strong gravity (G ~ Ge). Close to the continuous critical point separating the smooth from the rough phase of gravity, the critical exponents are estimated using a variety of methods on lattices with up to 15 x l6~= 1 572 864 simplices. With periodic boundaryconditions (four-torus) the average curvature approaches zero at the critical point. Curvature fluctuations diverge at this point, while the fluctuations in the local volumes remain bounded. The value ofthe curvature critical exponent is estimated to be ö = 0.626(25), when the critical point is approached from the smooth phase. In this phase, as well as at the critical point, the fractal dimension is consistent with four, the euclidean value. In the (physically unacceptable) rough, collapsed phase the fractal dimensions is closer to two, in agreement with earlier results which suggested a discontinuity in the fractal dimensions at the critical point. For sufficiently small higher derivative coupling, and in particular for the pure Regge-Einstein action, the transition between the smooth and rough phase becomes first order, suggesting theexistence of a multicritical point separating the continuous from thediscontinuous phase transition line.

High order perturbation study of the frustrated quantum Ising chain

In this paper, using high order perturbative series expansion method, the critical exponents of the order parameter and susceptibility in transition from ferromagnetic to disordered phases for 1D quantum Ising model in transverse field, with ferromagnetic nearest neighbor and anti-ferromagnetic next to nearest neighbor interactions, are calculated. It is found that for small value of the frustr...

Critical Properties of Two-dimensional Simplicial Quantum Gravity

Simplicial higher-derivative quantum gravity is investigated in two dimensions for a manifold of toroidal topology. The manifold is dynamically triangulated using Regge’s formulation of gravity, with continuously varying edge lengths and fiied coordination number. Critical exponents are estimated by computer simulation on lattices with up to 786432 edges, and compared to the continuum conformal...

Extending the Theory of Random Surfaces Appendix: Random Lattices and Matrix Models 28

The theory of embedded random surfaces, equivalent to two–dimensional quantum gravity coupled to matter, is reviewed, further developed and partly generalized to four dimensions. It is shown that the action of the Liouville field theory that describes random surfaces contains terms that have not been noticed previously. These terms are used to explain the phase diagram of the Sine–Gordon model ...

Critical Behavior of Dynamically Triangulated Quantum Gravity in Four Dimensions

We performed detailed study of the phase transition region in Four Dimensional Simplicial Quantum Gravity, using the dynamical triangulation approach. The phase transition between the Gravity and Antigravity phases turned out to be asymmetrical, so that we observed the scaling laws only when the Newton constant approached the critical value from perturbative side. The curvature susceptibility d...

Fixed points of quantum gravity in higher dimensions

We study quantum gravity in more than four dimensions by means of an exact functional flow. A non-trivial ultraviolet fixed point is found in the Einstein–Hilbert theory. It is shown that our results for the fixed point and universal scaling exponents are stable. If the fixed point persists in extended truncations, quantum gravity in the metric field is asymptotically safe. We indicate physical...
